NEW YORK — Jazz Chisholm Jr. writhed on the ground in agony after fouling a ball off his, well, crotch.

The pain, likely felt in the pit of his stomach as well as his testicles, was so grueling that the New York Yankees second baseman left Thursday night’s game against the Chicago White Sox mid-at-bat in the fourth inning. Before Chisholm was replaced in the game, his Yankees teammates were spotted by YES Network’s cameras in the dugout laughing after looking at the replay of his misfortune.

Anthony Volpe replaced Chisholm in the lineup with a 2-2 count and ended up working a walk.

New York is already dealing with numerous injuries to its lineup, including absences of Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, Trent Grisham and Austin Wells. That has not stopped the Yankees from continuing to mash offensively; by wRC+, only the Los Angeles Dodgers have a better offense this season.

Chisholm started the season slowly after declaring in spring training that he would become the sport’s second 50-50 member. He didn’t hit his first home run in 2026 until April 23. Since then, Chisholm has been effective at the plate. His 130 wRC+ in that span is fifth-best on the Yankees.

If Chisholm has to miss time, the Yankees could have José Caballero play second base while Volpe plays shortstop. That was the alignment Yankees manager Aaron Boone opted for after Chisholm was pulled from the game.
