Pirates’ Ryan O’Hearn joins exclusive group of players with 10 RBIs in a game

Five at-bats. Three home runs. Ten RBIs. One spot in history. That’s exactly where Pittsburgh Pirates first baseman Ryan O’Hearn found himself in the club’s 12-4 win over the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday.

With that RBI total, the slugger became just the 17th player in the modern era (since 1900) to have knocked in at least 10 runs in a single game, joining a list that includes Shohei Ohtani, Alex Rodriguez and Reggie Jackson, among others.

Whereas there have been a total of 24 perfect games in major league history, 21 in the modern era alone, only 16 players before O’Hearn ever found themselves in 10 or more RBI territory.

O’Hearn kicked off his night with a grand slam in the first inning, before adding two three-run homers in the third and sixth innings, respectively. His lone blemish, a groundout in the fourth inning.
