Mets’ Juan Soto, dealing with nagging calf issue, set for imaging after early exit

NEW YORK — Juan Soto will get imaging done on his nagging left calf Saturday, Mets interim manager Andy Green said Friday night after New York’s 4-2 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Green didn’t rule out a trip to the injured list for Soto, who left Friday’s game for a pinch hitter in the sixth inning.

“This has nagged him for a week,” Green said. “Anytime you get an image, you’re concerned.”

Soto has been dealing with issues in that left calf since the first game back from the All-Star break, when he was pulled in the eighth inning of a contest in Philadelphia. He’s largely served as the club’s DH since, spending one game in left field on Monday in Milwaukee. But he sat out Wednesday’s series finale against the Brewers, giving him back-to-back off days, and he only lasted two plate appearances as the DH on Friday.

Green said Soto felt something in his calf while running the bases Friday. He had walked twice against Los Angeles starter Roki Sasaki.

Soto missed time earlier this year with a strain to his right calf. For the season, he is hitting .283 with a .947 OPS.
