Liverpool sign England goalkeeper Khiara Keating after Manchester City exit

Liverpool have completed the signing of England goalkeeper Khiara Keating.

Keating, 22, was a free agent following the conclusion of her Manchester City contract this summer — despite City previously saying her deal ran until 2027.

The move will see the goalkeeper reunite with Liverpool head coach Gareth Taylor, who she made her City debut for in 2022 and enjoyed a breakthrough season under in 2023-24.

Keating won the Women’s Super League golden glove during the 2023-24 campaign after establishing herself as City’s first-choice goalkeeper. She kept nine clean sheets and, aged 19, became the youngest player in WSL history to win the award.

However, she has competed with Ayaka Yamashita for a starting spot since the Japan international’s arrival in the summer of 2024 and was restricted to just four WSL appearances last season as City won the title.

““I think everyone knows Liverpool worldwide. It’s such a big club and I think the women’s team is striving for greatness,” Keating said in a release on Monday.
“I think the style of football that they play, they actually try to play — which suits me and my position.

“I think they’re just going in the right direction and (it is) a project that I want to be part of. The start of my career has been nothing but amazing. I’ve gained platforms and
done brilliantly so far. But I needed that missing (piece of the) puzzle.

“I think Liverpool can be that — where I’m playing week in, week out and I’m getting good game time, playing with a good team and winning trophies.”

Keating has played once for England at senior level and was part of Sarina Wiegman’s 2025 European Championship-winning squad.

Jennifer Falk was Liverpool’s first-choice goalkeeper during the second half of the 2025-26 campaign after joining on loan from BK Hacken in January, and helped Taylor’s side steer themselves away from relegation.

Liverpool finished 11th in the WSL, eight points clear of bottom side Leicester City, having waited until January for their first WSL win of the season.
