Last day of Xi’s US visit begins with Trump at White House tea

This is the final day of Chinese President Xi Jinping and first lady Peng Liyuan’s visit to Washington, following a day in which Xi and US President Donald Trump discussed Taiwan and reached a “new joint arrangement” on trade.

Meanwhile, Peng joined her counterpart Melania Trump for a visit to the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Asian Art before both couples attended a state dinner alongside some of America’s top tech CEOs.

Today’s itinerary is less intensive: the couples will meet at the South Portico of the White House before drinking tea together. They will then visit the National Archives to see historical records and documents of importance to the US-China relationship.

The Trumps will say goodbye there. Xi will then head back to Joint Base Andrews in Maryland and depart.
