Lakers rocked by layoffs on ‘brutal’ day amid sweeping organizational changes

The Los Angeles Lakers suffered a “brutal” day amid a round of organizational layoffs Wednesday.
Numerous departments were affected as the franchise continues restructuring following its sale a year ago. The moves were not described as cost-cutting in nature, but people across content, marketing, corporate partnerships and media relations were affected. The day inside the team offices was described as “brutal.”

The Lakers previously had a round of layoffs when they moved their G League team to Coachella Valley.
Under new governor Tom Dundon, the Portland Trail Blazers have committed to sweeping cost-cutting measures that have sparked controversy throughout NBA circles. The Blazers’ sale was finalized earlier this year.
Lakers governor Mark Walter purchased the franchise from the Buss family for a record $10 billion last year.
