The English Football Association will review an incident at its Kansas City media centre on Thursday lunchtime, when a man walked into the main media room carrying a wrench.

The man, who appeared distressed, walked in before any England players or coaching staff arrived for team media duties on Thursday, before the squad flies to Miami on Friday morning for their World Cup quarter-final against Norway.

The intruder was swiftly ushered away and later peacefully left the premises after an officer from Kansas City police arrived on the scene.

The incident did not happen at England’s training base at Swope Soccer Village but in a community building nearby which the team has used as its media centre, which does have a security guard.

England has been based in Kansas City throughout its World Cup, flying to locations around the United States and Mexico for its fixtures.

Thomas Tuchel’s side take on Norway on Saturday aiming to go one better than the 2022 World Cup and reach the semi-finals. England last reached that stage in 2018, when they were defeated by Croatia before losing against Belgium in the third-place play-off.

England will face Norway without Jarell Quansah, after the Bayer Leverkusen was confirmed earlier on Thursday to have a two-game suspension for the red card he received against in England’s 3-2 round-of-16 win over Mexico on Sunday.
