MONACO — Alpine has moved to overturn Pierre Gasly’s time penalties that cost him a podium finish in Sunday’s Monaco Grand Prix by lodging a right of review with Formula 1 race stewards.
Gasly crossed the line third for Alpine, but was demoted to seventh place after receiving two five-second time penalties for breaking the pit lane speed limit.
The 30-year-old was one of five drivers to receive a penalty during Sunday’s race for pit lane speeding, where the limit is set at 60 km/h (37.2 mph). Gasly exceeded the limit by 0.1 km/h and 0.4 km/h in his two sanctions.
Speaking to reporters after the race, Gasly suggested that Alpine may look to challenge the stewards’ ruling, saying: “Hopefully they can do something.” At the time, he was unsure whether the team had commenced that process.
But in a short statement issued one hour later, an Alpine spokesperson said the team had lodged a right of review with the FIA-appointed stewards in Monaco.

Through this process, Alpine will be required to bring new and significant evidence before the stewards. If the evidence is deemed to meet those conditions, they will be able to re-evaluate the penalties which, if overturned, would restore Gasly to third place.
“I don’t think there’s anything that would hurt me more right now,” Gasly had told reporters after the race.
“It’s 10 years I’m f—ing working my ass off for this type of moment. We did everything right today. Standing on that podium in front of all the fans that turn up, this is the type of moment that for me can’t be taken away from us by unfair reasons.
“What’s going on right now is not right and hopefully they can make the right calls.”
