Tax refunds rise despite 6,000 IRS layoffs
CHARLOTTE, N.C. โ Tuesday’s Tax Day comes after more than 6,000 people were laid off at the IRS. Many Americans are wondering if this will impact their refund.
According to the IRS, at this time last year, more than 101.8 million tax returns were received. This year, around 101.4 million tax returns have been received. Though the number is slightly down this year, itโs not by much.
The number of people getting refunds is up this year compared to last year, and the average refund amount is also up by about $100.
According to the North Carolina Department of Revenue, more than 530,000 refunds have been issued since the last week in March. To give you some context, North Carolina averages about two to three million refunds each tax season.
