Starbucks brings back condiment bars, offers free refills in US cafes

Starting Monday, Starbucks is bringing back and introducing new amenities to its cafés in the U.S. and Canada.

DENVER — Starbucks is implementing new policies aimed at improving its café experience in the United States and Canada

Beginning Monday, when a Starbucks customer orders any beverage “for here,” it will be served in a coffee mug, glass or in a clean personal cup brought from home.

Starbucks said during that visit, customers will also be able to enjoy free refills of hot brewed or iced coffee, or hot or iced tea, in their reusable, “for-here” cup.

Starbucks also announced that its condiment bars are returning to its cafés, including creamer, milk and a variety of sweeteners.

The coffee chain also said it will be implementing a Coffeehouse Code of Conduct to provide clarity that its “spaces are for use by customers and partners.”

“We’ve also heard from customers and partners (employees) that access to comfortable seating and a clean, safe environment is critical to getting back to the Starbucks they know and love,” Starbucks said.

The new policies come as part of a push by Starbucks’ new chairman and CEO, Brian Niccol, to reinvigorate the chain’s sagging sales. Niccol has said that he wants Starbucks to recapture the community coffeehouse feeling it used to have, before long drive-thru lines, mobile order backups and other issues made visits more of a chore.
