Kelley Mack dies: ‘Walking Dead,’ ‘Chicago Med’ star was 33
In January, Mack shared she has been diagnosed with diffused midline glioma, a rare type of astrocytoma cancer.
WASHINGTON — Kelley Mack, known for her roles in “The Walking Dead” and “Chicago Med,” has died. She was 33.
The actress died on Saturday, Aug. 2, after a battle with glioma of the central nervous system, according to a family statement shared on CaringBridge. A glioma is a tumor that forms when glial cells, which generally support nerves and help the central nervous system, grow out of control, according to the Cleveland Clinic. Gliomas tend to grow in the brain but can also form in the spinal cord.
“It is with indelible sadness that we are announcing the passing of our dear Kelley. Such a bright, fervent light has transitioned to the beyond, where we all eventually must go,” Her sister, Kathryn Klebenow, said in a statement shared Tuesday on Mack’s Instagram. “Kelley passed peacefully on Saturday evening with her loving mother Kristen and steadfast aunt Karen present. Kelley has already come to many of her loved ones in the form of various butterflies 🦋 ❤️. She will be missed by so many to depths that words cannot express.”
The family announced that they will have “a recognition and remembrance of Kelley’s life” in Glendale, Ohio, on Aug. 16, with a celebration of life planned in Los Angeles at a future date.
Mack, who was born Kelley Lynne Klebenow, starred as Addy in Season 9 of “The Walking Dead.” The 33-year-old actress had credits in several commercials and TV shows, but her most significant role came as Penelope Jacobs on Season 8 of “Chicago Med.”
