Jessie J reveals early breast cancer diagnosis and plans for surgery
The singer shared in a video on Instagram that she is preparing to have surgery later this month.
WASHINGTON — English singer-songwriter Jessie J has revealed she has been diagnosed with early stage breast cancer.
The 37-year-old took to Instagram to share the message with her fans in a video posted Tuesday.
“I’ve always shared everything that I go through in my life. Before ‘No Secrets’ came out, I was diagnosed with early breast cancer,” she said.
Jessie J said she was encouraged that doctors caught the cancer early. “Cancer sucks in any form, but I’m holding on to the word early,” she said.
She said she’s been undergoing tests over the past few months and plans to have surgery following her performance at the Summertime Ball concert in England on June 15.
“It’s a very dramatic way to get a boob job,” she joked in the video. “I am going to disappear for a bit after Summertime Ball to have my surgery, and I will come back with massive t— and more music.”
Jessie J added that she chose to go public in part to help herself process the news.
“Selfishly, I do not talk about it enough,” she said. “I’m not processing it because I’m working so hard. I also know how much sharing in the past has helped me with other people giving me their love and support and also their own stories.”
In the comments section of the post, Jessie J joked about the situation. “No (more) Secrets and is it too soon to do a remix called ‘Living my breast life’? All jokes aside (You know it’s one of the ways I get through hard times),” she wrote.
“This last 2 months have been so amazing, and having this go on along side it on the sidelines has given me the most incredible perspective. BUT… Your girl needs a hug.”
She added, “Also not getting massive t—. Or am I? No no… I must stop joking.”
Other performers reached out in the comments of Jessie J’s post to share their support, including Rita Ora, Leona Lewis and Katy Perry, who wrote, “Love you! We all are sending healing energy to youuu… excited for the massive t— and more music.”
