German court sets precedent on climate change liability but rejects Peruvian farmer's claim

A German court on Monday rejected a Peruvian farmer’s landmark climate case demanding German energy giant RWE pay to protect his hometown from increased flood risk caused by a melting glacier. Although the court ruled against the farmer, it set a new legal precedent by finding that polluters could be held responsible for costs caused by their carbon emissions.
