The very best time to be in this city is right now, when the temperatures are moderate and the action during the days and evenings is decidedly not.

So here’s guessing WNBA All-Star Friday night spilled into All-Star Early Saturday Morning for a good amount of participants and staffers, never mind the fans.

At 10:18 p.m. CT on Friday, an official email arrived from the league: The scheduled team shootarounds for the following morning had been canceled preemptively, making it the second straight year the WNBA pulled the plug on those practices during All-Star weekend.

Was it a big deal? Absolutely not. The shootarounds were set for Wintrust Arena…while the actual All-Star Game will take place across town at the United Center. It wasn’t going to help anyone’s feel for Saturday night anyway, if that mattered at all.

Was it an acknowledgement that the energy at shootarounds would be…uh, not great? And that everyone might prefer to sleep in? It would be fair to assume so.

Look no further than Phoenix Mercury guard Kahleah Copper’s pronouncement during the media day circuit early Friday: “Yo, I had a ball last night.”

No one could blame her, or anyone else having a similarly good times. In summertime, the Second City is second to none for fun.
