Ravens waive Diego Pavia, leaving 4 quarterbacks on roster

The Baltimore Ravens have waived undrafted rookie quarterback Diego Pavia, jettisoning the Heisman Trophy finalist less than a week before the start of training camp. Pavia was let go to make room on the 90-man roster for free-agent center Ethan Pocic, who passed his physical and signed his one-year deal Thursday.

The move leaves the team with four quarterbacks on the roster: Lamar Jackson, Tyler Huntley, Skylar Thompson and undrafted rookie Joe Fagnano. Baltimore traditionally only keeps two quarterbacks on its 53-man roster, and Huntley is well established as Jackson’s backup.

The Ravens signed Pavia as a college free agent on April 28, just before the team’s rookie minicamp. They had a comfort level with Pavia, whose college coach, Clark Lea, is close friends with Ravens head coach Jesse Minter. However, with four other quarterbacks on the roster, Pavia got very few practice repetitions, and it always seemed unlikely that Baltimore would carry five signal callers throughout training camp and the preseason.

Pavia, one of the more polarizing players in college football, became Vanderbilt’s first-ever Heisman finalist, finishing second in the balloting to Indiana’s Fernando Mendoza, the first overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft by the Las Vegas Raiders.
