Jarrod Bowen signs revised West Ham contract to commit future to club
West Ham United captain Jarrod Bowen has committed his immediate future to the club by signing a revised contract.
Bowen, 29, has agreed to a contract adjustment which, according to sources briefed on discussions, speaking on the condition of anonymity to protect relationships, does not extend the deal beyond its expiration of 2030, but ensures he commits his future to West Ham for the 2026-27 Championship season.
West Ham will play in the second tier for the first time in 14 years during the upcoming campaign following their relegation from the Premier League last term and risk losing a selection of key players this summer.
The Athletic reported in June that West Ham have been desperate to keep hold of captain Bowen.
The club sold Portugal midfielder Mateus Fernandes to Tottenham for £85million following their relegation to the Championship. Winger Crysencio Summerville is also expected to be sold, with The Athletic reporting that Manchester United are considering the Netherlands international as an option on the left-wing.
Bowen made 42 appearances in all competitions during the 2025-26 campaign, scoring 11 goals and providing 12 assists.
The England international played a central role in West Ham’s 2023 Europa Conference League triumph, scoring the 90th-minute winner against Fiorentina in the final to secure the club’s first major trophy in 43 years.
He joined West Ham from Hull City in a £22m deal in January 2020 and signed a new seven-year contract in October 2023.
Bowen has scored 85 goals and provided 63 assists in 280 appearances for West Ham.
The forward has won 22 caps for England since making his senior international debut against Hungary in June 2022 — scoring once — but was not included in Thomas Tuchel’s squad for the 2026 World Cup.
Bowen’s commitment sends a strong message
When Aston Villa expressed strong interest in signing Bowen this summer, West Ham’s stance was that the 29-year-old was not for sale. Although West Ham received a number of enquiries, the Championship side always maintained hope that Bowen would lead their push for promotion.
The attacker has shown loyalty by committing his future and it sends a strong message that the club intends to keep their best players. Bowen, who is widely considered a club legend, has had memorable moments in his six-and-a-half-year spell, from scoring the winner in the 2023 UEFA Conference League final, and equaling Paolo Di Canio’s record (16) for most goals scored in a Premier League season by a West Ham player.
Spearheading the club’s immediate promotion to the Premier League would further cement his place in West Ham folklore. It would also mirror Sir Trevor Brooking who stayed at the club following their relegation to the second tier in 1978. Brooking led West Ham back to the top-flight three years later. Now Bowen can follow suit and add to his list of growing achievements.
