Uzbekistan vs Colombia live updates: World Cup 2026 game latest team news and build-up

Colombia midfielder Jhon Arias is from the city of Quibdo, located in the state of Choco on Colombia’s Pacific coast.

Quibdo is among the most impoverished cities in Colombia and Arias is the city’s golden child. He has sponsored a watch party in the city centre that will allow the people of Quibdo’s Samper neighbourhood to watch Colombia’s World Cup opener today.

A giant screen has been installed and the event is free of charge. Arias said Tuesday via social media:

💬 “I want to extend a very special invitation for you to join us, specifically in the Samper neighborhood, where a space is being organized for you to enjoy our national team’s first match. Support us and cheer along with us as we go for that first victory.

“For me, it’s a huge pleasure to be part of something so beautiful and to be able to give back a little of all the love and support you give me every day. I hope you enjoy this wonderful experience, and God bless you all. A hug to everyone.”

Arias will feature in his first World Cup and is expected to be a key tactical piece for head coach Nestor Lorenzo.

Arias is a do-everything midfielder who can play centrally or on either wing. After a brief spell with Wolves last season, Arias returned to Brazil in a controversial transfer to Palmeiras. He had previously starred for Fluminense.
