Belk brings corporate employees back into the office 3 days per week
Belk corporate employees went completely remote at the start of the pandemic.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Belk is bringing corporate employees back into the office three times per week as the Charlotte-based retailer adjusts its policies from the COVID-19 pandemic, a spokesperson told WCNC Charlotte.
Belk says corporate employees will return to in-person work three days a week at the company’s headquarters on Tyvola Road in southwest Charlotte. It marks a shift from the fully remote policy Belk adopted at the onset of the pandemic in 2020.
“We’re looking forward to working together more frequently and enhancing collaboration and productivity amongst all of our talented teams,” spokesperson Jessica Rohlik said.
Belk has faced financial issues in recent years, filing for bankruptcy in February 2021. Sycamore Partners, Belk’s parent company, said the bankruptcy would help the company shed about $450 million of debt.
In 2022, Don Hendricks was named CEO after spending several months as interim chief executive officer following the resignation of Nir Patel. Belk sued Patel for allegedly breaking his contract, accusing him of recruiting some of Belk’s highest executives to join him at GameStop. The lawsuit was settled in November 2022 and was dismissed with prejudice a few days later, meaning the suit couldn’t be pursued further. Terms of the settlement weren’t disclosed.
Belk was founded in the Charlotte area in the late 1800s and now has nearly 300 stores in more than a dozen states. GameStop was founded in 1984 in Dallas, Texas as Babbage’s and has more than 4,500 stores globally under six different brands.
