Vladimir Guerrero Jr. goes on concussion IL after collision at third base

Following a collision at third base on Friday and subsequent concussion protocol testing, the Toronto Blue Jays have placed Vladimir Guerrero Jr. on the 7-day concussion IL.

The incident, which happened in the sixth inning of Friday’s 3-1 win over the New York Yankees, saw Guerrero take an errant knee to the head during a series of defensive miscues by the Yankees. Guerrero, who was sliding into third base, collided with George Lombard Jr.’s knee. Guerrero was able to pop up to his feet and run home and score; however, field cameras caught the slugger wincing.

Guerrero subsequently left the game and went through the concussion protocol, with manager John Schneider noting after Toronto’s 3-1 win that Guerrero had “a bit of a headache.”

Just before first pitch on Saturday, Toronto made it official by placing Guerrero on the IL as part of a series of roster moves. Elsewhere, outfielder Daz Cameron had his contract selected, while right-hander Lazaro Estrada was designated for assignment.
