Red Sox top White Sox in 13-inning marathon to keep winning streak alive

BOSTON — In a Boston Red Sox season full of implausible, unbelievable, unexpected twists and turns, Thursday night provided the latest chapter.

In a marathon of a game at Fenway Park, the Red Sox repeatedly battled back to tie it up, including in the bottom of the ninth of what would be the longest game in the pitch clock era for Boston.

Caleb Durbin finally ended it in the bottom of the 13th, with a one-out RBI single up the middle. The hit scored Nick Sogard, who slid head-first across the plate. It was an exhausting and exhilarating 12-11 victory, one that stretched the Boston’s win streak to eight games.

Durbin threw his arms wide as he rounded first to the deafening sound of Fenway Park’s sellout crowd of 37,082 celebrating.
