CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Thrift Pony is expanding its reach in the Queen City.

The popular Charlotte-based secondhand store shared the announcement Friday morning on Instagram, saying the business just signed a lease on a store in the Lower South End and South End area, on South Tryon Street.

“The space is everything I was looking for and more,” Thrift Pony founder Hellen Moffitt said in the announcement video.

Moffitt said she’s long wanted a standalone building they could paint pink, and now that dream is coming true. The new building is two stories; the bottom floor will be for retail space, while the plans for the top floor are still in the works.

Last year, Thrift Pony relocated from its original location just outside Plaza Midwood to a Camp North End property, and since then has hosted several events and fundraiser sales.

“Without you this wouldn’t be possible,” Moffitt said. “I’m just feeling really grateful and really excited.”

In Thrift Pony’s podcast, “The Ponyverse with Hellen & Lil Megs,” Moffitt said they’d start the moving in process in October, around a year after they got the keys for the Camp North End location.

Moffitt said while the Camp North End location has come to be “Camp Pony,” she’s thinking of this new location as “Club Pony.” That’s in honor of the building’s previous time as a gay club years ago.

An official opening date for the new location has not yet been announced.
