That was the day the 33rd pick of the 2023 NFL Draft committed four turnovers, threw his fourth pick-six of the season and was benched in the Tennessee Titans’ 37-27 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.

The Titans took Miami quarterback Cam Ward with the No. 1 pick of the 2025 draft a few months later, and Levis missed the entire 2025 season after undergoing surgery to repair the AC joint in his throwing shoulder.

Still, while Levis may have lost his starting job a while ago, he hasn’t lost his confidence entering the 2026 season.

“There are not 32 quarterbacks in this league better than me,” Levis told reporters at Titans training camp Saturday. “I know that for sure. I know I’ve put the tape out there already.”

One of those 32, at least for the time being, shares the same locker room in Tennessee. Perhaps even two.

The Titans are expected to run it back with Ward as their starter in 2026. And Levis even faces competition for the backup position after the Titans signed 31-year-old Mitch Trubisky this offseason. Trubisky was a Pro Bowler in 2018 for the Chicago Bears, and backed up Josh Allen with the Buffalo Bills the last two seasons.

Last season, Ward set franchise rookie records for passing yards (3,169) and fewest interceptions (seven) among quarterbacks with at least 200 pass attempts. Ward threw 15 touchdown passes and ran for two more, though he also lost seven fumbles as the Titans finished 3-14.

Since being drafted out of Kentucky, Levis owns a 5-16 career record in 21 games played across two healthy seasons. He has thrown for 3,899 yards, 21 touchdowns and 16 interceptions. He’s also fumbled 17 times, losing 10 of them. His 26 total turnovers are the second most by any player with fewer than 30 games played since the start of the 2023 season. He trails only Daniel Jones, who has committed 27 turnovers in 29 games over that span.

But speaking to reporters for the first time since undergoing surgery prior to the 2025 campaign, Levis insisted better days are ahead.

“I know I’ve put the tape out there already that I’m a damn good quarterback in this league,” Levis said Saturday. “And I’m even better than I ever have been.”

With Ward firmly entrenched as the starter under new head coach Robert Saleh, Levis may have to prove it elsewhere.
