‘E! News’ canceled after 34-year run, brand will go digital

The long-running entertainment news show will continue as a digital brand.

LOS ANGELES — “E! News” has been canceled in its television format, ending a 34-year run that made it one of entertainment television’s longest-running programs, according to multiple reports Thursday.

The show will continue as a digital brand.

The nightly entertainment news program will officially end Sept. 25, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The show launched in 1991 and became a staple of celebrity coverage and entertainment journalism. The show is currently hosted by Keltie Knight and Justin Sylvester.

Employees learned of the cancellation news this morning, sources said. While tonight’s broadcast will be a repeat, new episodes will resume next week before the September finale.

The cancellation comes as NBCUniversal undergoes a major corporate restructuring. The media conglomerate has split into two companies, with the NBC broadcast network, Peacock streaming service and Bravo remaining under NBCUniversal, while E! and other cable networks, including USA Network, Syfy, CNBC and MSNBC, will become part of a new company called Versant.

Some “E! News” correspondents are expected to transition to roles within Versant.

The show paused for a two-year hiatus during the pandemic from 2020 to 2022 before returning as a late-night broadcast. The program, originally a daytime show, previously featured notable hosts including Ryan Seacrest, Giuliana Rancic and Jason Kennedy.

The E! network will continue producing other original programming and red-carpet coverage. The cable network will also broadcast the upcoming Critics Choice Awards on January 4.

Access Hollywood and Access Daily, which share production facilities with E! News, will continue normal operations, according to reports.
